1 ENOCH: Whether at this time you think 1 Enoch is scripture or not is irrelevant. Why? Because the Jews of the Second Temple Period not only wrote it (from some source), but believed its history and its story. They believed it, taught it, and passed it along through some 20 generations until Jesus arrives on the scene. By that time, a significant number of Jews (e.g., Pharisees, Essenes, et al) were being raised with and taught these stories—perhaps even bedtime stories for children. Even common Jews had this worldview in their scope of beliefs.
So—with this in mind—consider 1 Enoch 16:4, where God is talking through Enoch to the Watchers who have fallen and petitioned God for mercy. This is a part of His reply to them. let's listen in:
You have been in heaven, but all the mysteries had not yet been revealed to you, and you knew worthless ones, and these in the hardness of your hearts you have made known to the women, and through these mysteries women and men work much evil on earth." Say to them, therefore: "You have no peace.
Much more yet to come
This morning, I have been reading 1 Enoch with a task. That task is to catalogue and build an Enochian Watcher Template—that is—what they did, what they taught, and the results of it all as a generalized or abstract template. Why? For the purpose of using that template to identify both the sins of the Watchers and giants (now demons) at work in human beings—OR—the opposite and reversing of these things through Jesus and in us as His own (e.g., believers, disciples, et al).
Therefore, as I am traversing this Enochian story, I come upon the verse above and it is amazing to me. Why? Because it shows the Jewish belief in the grandness of God, and the limits and hubris of the Watchers as well as demons baked into their view. For them, God knows all. The Watchers (and us by extension) know very little and what they do know (what they stole from heaven) was the very bottom end of the knowledge base of heaven. As God through Enoch calls it: "the worthless ones" (the worthless knowledge).
What does this leave us with? It leaves us with:
But, as it is written, 'What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him.'
This is quoting:
From of old no one has heard or perceived by the ear, no eye has seen a God besides you, who acts for those who wait for him.
The message is clear, is it not? The valuable secret knowledge of heaven is still locked up in the Mind and Person of God—Father, Son, and Spirit! Science will not reveal it—not now, not ever! Watchers cannot. Demons cannot. Why? Because—THEY DON'T KNOW IT!!!
They were too eager and unrighteous. They were prideful and wise in their own eyes, thinking they knew something powerful. But God had and has a reserve knowledge that was NOT revealed to them.
WARNING!!!
This is not to say that what the Watchers and demons know is not spectacular, powerful, and even supernatural. It is. Be prepared. It's coming. Don't be fooled!
For false christ's and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.
Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake. And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
There are so many connections to 1 Enoch and Genesis 3/6/10/11, as well as Deuteronomy 32 here. The matter is of more fallen Watchers along with demons (giants) who keep the lawlessness going on the earth (Genesis 6:4 "... and afterwards ...")
The Nephilim [giants] were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when[ever] the sons of God [Watchers] came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men [giants] who were of old, the men [giants] of renown.
The link from the Watchers (fallen sons of God) and their giant kids as the source of lawlessness in the minds of a Second Temple Jew is rather plain. 1 Enoch draws the connection very early in the story:
And they [daughters of men] became pregnant, and they bore great giants, whose height was three thousand ells: Whom [giants] consumed all of the acquisitions of men. And when men could no longer sustain them, the giants turned against them and devoured mankind.
And they [giants] began to sin against birds, and beasts, and reptiles, and fish, and to devour one another's flesh, and drink the blood.
Then the earth laid accusation against the lawless ones [giants].
Here's the bottom line: All of the wickedness, unrighteousness, and lawlessness of the last 6,000 years is borne on the backs of fallen Watchers (sons of God) and their bastard giant children (the lawless ones)—and human beings who follow them into it. Not only this, but the secret knowledge those creatures brought with them from the heavenly realms was literally trash knowledge that they taught to us and continue to teach and preach. And even if that knowledge turns out to be spectacular and even supernatural in appearance, WE NEED TO STAND STRONG!
Here is the Beauty!
The plan of God seems to be to reveal this knowledge to His faithful and loyal family members. Not only is this entire pan of history a loyalty test, but there is a reward for being loyal: To know, experience, and benefit from the core and highly valuable secret knowledge that God has reserved for his loyal family members—both divine and human.
You see? Even divine heavenly host beings are going to be rewarded for being loyal to Yahweh!
